On May 30, our community came together for the First Annual Jesse’s Justice Softball Tournament & Family Day, and we are still overwhelmed by the support we received.
Despite chilly temperatures, wind, and periods of rain throughout the day, people showed up. Teams took the field, families gathered, volunteers worked tirelessly, vendors shared their businesses, sponsors supported our mission, and community members spent the day helping us honor Jesse’s memory.
What could have been a difficult day because of the weather became something truly special because of the people who attended.
As a small nonprofit organization, Jesse’s Justice Inc. simply could not exist without the support of our community. Every team registration, sponsorship, raffle ticket purchase, donation, volunteer hour, social media share, and event attendee helps us continue our work. The success of this event is a reminder that there are so many people who believe in our mission and want to help us make a difference.
Jesse’s Justice was founded following the loss of our beloved son, brother, and friend, Jesse Johansmeyer. Through our own experience, we learned that grief does not end after the services are over and the meals stop arriving. Grief becomes something you carry with you, and many families are left trying to navigate that journey with limited support and resources.
That reality inspired us to create Jesse’s Justice.
Our mission is to honor Jesse’s life by building community, supporting those affected by grief and traumatic loss, and advocating for meaningful change through efforts such as Jesse’s Law. While advocacy remains an important part of our work, events like this remind us that community itself can be a powerful source of healing.
Throughout the day, we watched old friends reconnect, new friendships form, families make memories, and teams compete in the spirit of fun and camaraderie. We saw people who knew Jesse, people who never had the chance to meet him, and people who simply wanted to support a local cause. Every one of those individuals helped make the day meaningful.
To our sponsors, vendors, volunteers, board members, players, donors, and everyone who attended: thank you. Your support allows us to continue growing Jesse’s Justice and expanding the impact we hope to have in our community for years to come.
This event was about more than softball. It was about remembering Jesse, strengthening community connections, supporting a meaningful cause, and creating something positive from unimaginable loss.
